Im calling out gumbysmoke bcz i just bought his fi btl 15 and when i got home i noticed 4 rips in the spider when i pushed down the cone to see if it was still stiff and i still tried the sub and it worked fine and had over excursion once but then played fine but i dont appreciate the rips and i demand money back for a recone :mad:

Ive known him a while and I know he isnt the most knowledgeable but still, soudns wierd that there are rips in the spider. I would like pics asap tho. I dont see it ripping over night either so I hope he comes on and helps out the situation

I didn't notice a thing, and to me the sub looked brand new and played FINE FULL TILT ON 2.4K just hours before selling it.


He tried to tell me he had "over excursion" on it when he put it in his wall on 1100 watts, which makes me think he hooked it up wrong or something.


I have a few people that can either vouch the sub played fine full tilt the day before, or had no noticable "rips" in the spyder.


I'm just trying not to get scammed into buying this kid a recone for a sub that is perfectly fine.

Just cause I find something after the fact that makes me feel stupid for buying it doesn't mean I can demand money back. If I met the guy in person, inspected the sub, money exchanged hands, and sub was playing fine then it's my fault for not inspecting it thoroughly enough before handing over my money.

This the same sub you were beatin on during the Orlando shows? I member once you had one that was underpowered. Im not calling you a liar, you were really cool in person. I know that sub was moving pretty darn far a few times. I dont see either of you seeing the tears in the spider. SO both being ppl I know yall both may be at fault, one for not giving all the info on the sub and the other for buying it without fully inspecting it which is still a wierd thing cause we dont look at spiders very well or see many ripped

Same sub. I had power to the sub for only about 3 weeks of the total 7 months I had the sub. As I think you might remember I was ampless for a long time when I started college.

Also when I got the aq 1200's I reduced the volume with a port that was quite a bit longer.

but that box you saw back then was 5 cubes, which is in no way abusive to a btl on 1200-1300 watts.

im not complaining about the way it plays just once it had a long excursion im just concerned about the spider. Gumby seems like a cool guy i just suspected that he knew positive that everything on the sub was in good shape but i guess not bcz for what i paid the sub is deff not worth

Very true, but if its the same guy that had the definitions for QTS, FS, xmax, linear excurions and how to build a box to get the best of all your subwoofer I think he might of know. As I stated, he doesnt seem liek someone who would scam someone but maybe he did. For someone as knowledable as I ever meet I think its wierd. I know John-dbescort pretty well and I know he bought without hesitation and that was his downfall. Sucks to see someone get screwed specially when he is a friend and the other guy is someone you know seemes cool

Considering both of you guys didnt even look at the spiders then I would say its both of your faults for not fully inspecting a product before buying or selling and not having the knowledge to examine it down to every piece available to the naked eye.

Simply dont buy used or dont expect it to be in like new condition. Everybody seen how he used the sub as a daily sub so I would have planned on paying to get a recone regardless unless I knew he baby'd and only drove like 5 minutes to work everyday. This last sentence is by no way an attack at Gunbysmoke just teh common sense I would of used when purchasing the subwoofer thats all.

glad u two figured it out,everyones been in a similar situation at least once,even if its not with car audio. I remember when I was 16 I bought a mmats d300hc,the seller said "all screws are missing for terminals" but I was so excited i didnt even see that at the bottom of the listing,got it here and i was like wtf is this ****? went back and sure enough he stated it I was just too excited to notice it lol.

They should not affect performance at all, unless you are trying to reach full excursion.
