Eq's work well if you've got good amplifiers on your mids/highs, because they should already have a good x-over. But use a good EQ, don't buy a cheap one (Power Acoustik, Pyle, Pyramid, etc.) Check out the Clarion EQS746, it's a great unit. It's a EQ and Line driver (7 volts)!

EQ's, if used improperly, are just a bandaid. You should avoid boosting and just do cutting. Depending on what you consider "SQ" it takes a good EQ (several hundred dollars) and a well trained ear/RTA. Even RTA readings are not accurate as most do not enjoy a completely flat response.

With good installation/component selecton and proper Xovers you should get good enough SQ for anyone but an audiophile.

I have $180 component set and with an active Xover and some tuning I got **** good SQ IMO. Any better and I'd have to do some more deadening to notice any real difference. How I miss my active setup. :(

The big question is are you looking to go win a National SQ Championship or just looking for better sound???? Better sound? Go with an EQ, and do some good tuning. National SQ Championship? Save up around $10,000 to re-due everything you have and we'll talk!!!!

well i am just looking to make my setup better i had stock speakers and i remove theam and am getting better more power and i want it to sounds clean not like those guys that are in the street with stock speakers and they sound like they pop so yea thats why i was asking what makes a boost and makes it sound realy nice as in clean.

PS.
Can i just get the EQ? or do i need a amp then the EQ or with just the EQ would do.?

$10,000 may be a little rediculous, but it's to get the point accross.
But I guarantee if you went and talked to Alma Gates, Gary Biggs, Justin Polk, Larry Chijner, etc.... how much it money it took to get them to National/World Champions in SQ, it would be much more expensive than 10g's.

But I digress,
Snoopy,
Buy a good mid/high amp and a good EQ and you'll be sounding better than 75% of anyone else in your neighborhood!!!
