Yep, another "what kind of sub(s) should I get" thread. Lol, ok so lets cut the crap and get to the business. I'm looking to spend $200-260ish for the sub stage. I have at the most 3ft^3 of airspace to play with before port and sub displacement. Amp will be either a Brutus 1600 or 2000, depends on what power I need for the substage. Im open for any sizes, my last setup was 4 Assassin 8's that did mid 140's on the mic, so im looking for something louder than that. Whatever will work best in that airspace. As said it will be behind the bench seat of a single cab truck, I want a daily wanger, something I can take to the shows and pull decent numbers but play daily and enjoy as well. Not looking for a fart sub. I've heard about the ICON's and I've also looked at the new Assassins, fi Q's (or the BLs), or some DD 1008's. But those were just what I've seen alot, I havent read up on the new subs this year at all, so Im just looking for a good starting point. Any helpful input is appreciated thanks!

For that small of a space in a regular cab .. I would look into two of the DD 1508s. They have the same mounting depth as the old 1000s, but pack more of a punch. I say two 8's because you will have more cone area and two motors to share the load.
In a box about like this .. but cut for 2 - 8s . . 2 would love about 1.75 net .. and that is right at what you will be left with after wood, port, and woofer displacement.

If you go to

I'm sure you can do your own research. I am biased . . but not without reason. Digital Designs are some of the best products I ever sold, used, or installed.
And, as for power. . if it is clean and unclipped. . don't be afraid to more than double what is rec.

And, if you kind of want the best of both worlds. . hit numbers on the weekend and listen to music daily .. .consider a box like this .. not the size obviously .. but the design .. I designed this one for loburbon

It works well. His number is low for now. . but that is with some SERIOUS VOLTAGE ISSUES that took out his other amps. . Now, he is installing some bats. .. thank god. But, no tuning. . no voltage .. and that's where he is ..
With the third section off . .he peaks near 52hz for his explorer . . and, with the middle cap on .. he tunes closer to 38hz .. peaking near 43 or so .. I have not measured in his truck . .but that is est.
Now, he did the building .. and the idea is not original .. .but my math was . .and it worked. .
You could do the same idea with the truck box. . . section the port into 3 exactly equal parts. DD suggests 15 sq in of port per cube .. so if you did 22.5 per cube with all three chambers open . . tune it to your trucks res . for a fart knocker . . . Then, figure when you cap a 1/3 off .. you will be back to 15 per cube for music .. and, if you can figure out the port length that will tune high enough for a fart .. then tune low enough for music when you want to cover 1/3 .. you're in business. .

AutoMedia, thanks for the input! What kind of numbers would you expect to get with those? My 4 assassin 8's were pulling 145-48's. And I built the box for them that were in w/removable pvc ports. One port plate tuned to 45 and one to 35 (although the AA's loved the 45 so much i never used the 35,lmfao) How would some 1510's do? Anybody else got some suggestions besides DD?

you would be hard pressed to get as much output for the money .. in such a small space. And, you're welcome too.

I just noticed I didn't answer your question . . lol Well, it's hard to predict numbers. What size box were you running before??? How much airspace and what were the outer dimensions? Was it 3/4 inch? Because, that is a nice number, for that setup. . What kind of amp were you using? And, what year and make truck? If it's an older s10 .. I can see that being pretty easy . .they like 45 to 47 hz. alot. How far up was your seat for driving??
There have been a few people on soundpressure get into the low fifty's with 3 of the DDs. But, they had some serious power. . and extended cabs.

The box was 3ft^3 total before the sub and port disp. Thats sacrificing ALL legroom, seat ALL the way up. Its a 1984 GMC full size. Brutus 1600 amp, 95 amp alt, big 3, legal at the dash onthe AC 190 was a 148.xx. Box is 3/4 in internally braced. The 3ft is internal airspace after taking the wood thickness out. box is 9.5x7.5x15x56 (bottom depth, top depth, hight, width) Oh yea, tuning was 45 htz, peaked around the 50s (i honestly cant remember the exact note)

You have more room than you think!! Are you trying to stay in any certain class to compete?? If not, go for the 1512s .. .If you are, maybe 2 1510s in that price range .. Or, whatever. . I was suggesting the DD's . . well I love DD at any size .. but, because you needed to use 8's in that small box. . but hell !! GO FOR THE 12'S .. .. build the box like this ..
Or, just for ideas .. . look at this .. I know you have the older version .. but these two designs are headed down the right path ..

You cant go wrong if you choose one of the subs listed, I would really look more at space consumed and price!!

Nah, Im not looking at any certain class, I actually got put into **** Ultimate class this year b/c the box I had came past the b pillar, lmao. So it dont matter on the class. The box I have now is pretty much as big as I can possibly go, beneath that hump under the window. Where the box you pictured comes out and goes over the hump, mine doesnt. And I didnt think that could give me and extra 2cubes,lol. but after looking, it is a bit more room above that hump, lmao. Hrmmmm...:eyebrow: That probox link didnt work for me though :( I was leaning myself to a dual 10 or single 12 setup. I've never played w/10s and I've had a single 12 setup before and loved it. What do you think of maybe a 3512 (if I could find one used) or the 1510s? Anyone else ran anything past DDs (Im not hating, I've always wanted to run some DD's, I just wanna look at every option before I go with something you know) Mike troll, thanks for the input as well!

WOW, hey I spec'd out a box using that model you gave me and I can manage 4.15ft^3 before disp now. Man, I really didnt think that would give me that much more space, lol, wow. Ok so, around 4 cubes to play with now, whats everybody think of that?

There's plenty of stuff that will work, of course. I was on the DD kick because you had such limited space. .and the DD 8's are murderous. Now that you can go bigger, if you want, there are plenty of 10s that will do well. I would do 2 10's myself.
But, 1 1510s would be killer. For the budget .. it's a fit. But, you could get kicker, Pioneer, RE, what ever ..

Lol, yea your the **** man, I never would have though I could have got 4cubes out of that! (really 4.15 to be technical,LOL) I was thinking of two 10s or one 12, but i dunno what i can get w/my price range. Kinda changes my plans having more airspace to play with, lol
