Man if you get a shorted wire it will blow the inline fuse at your radio but that wire will be "hot" all the way to that fuse. Therefore your radio will be protected from short, but not from the fire that comes next! It is not my nor anyone else's business what you do to your truck but for goodness sake be safe man. As for the grommets, look for them to keep the above from happening. They are available almost anywhere.

i mean at least wrap something around them so the wires dont chafe on the bare metal and cause a fire.

:nono: You still need to fuse your power wires AT THE BATTERY. Loom is for making a cleaner job, not protecting from electrical shorts.

If he didnt tke the proper safety precautions then I can do nothing but laugh at him.

Dont do it if you arent going to do it right. Some people dont understand how much energy is stored in a car battery and how much flamable stuff a car contains. It doesnt take anything but a small short to put a vehicle up in flames.

very true fryman.

about 18 years back(before i knew what i was doing) i had a system with no fuse on the batt and **** near burnt my car to the ground.

it took all of 5 seconds to melt the power wires insulation and smoke us out of the car.

if my friend didnt move the power wire off of the seat bolt(crappy install.dont ask.lol)
it would have kept burning.it left a burn trail in the carpet. turns out there was a nick in the power cable and it rested on the seat bolt just long enough.(the amp was in the floor board in the back seat.told ya it was a crappy install.)

that was my first and ONLY fire after that.

there was another time i had to piss out a fire under my hood.no really, but it was a faulty wire for the a/c.

now that was embarrassing cause i was on a date(first date on top of that).not the whipping it out part.the car trying to burst into flames part.lol
