Hey guys, I just registered here after meeting CalusaCustomConcepts at the meeting at Sand Key... Unfortunatly I had none of my stuff installed then so I may never know what numbers I'm doing with my system :( . I do have some ?'s for you fella's never the less. I'm only 17 so I'm working with a limited budget... But my newest setup is going to be a Memphis MCD1000 and a 15" S.I. Mag. The amp has 2 x 40 amp fuses... My car is a 1999 Honda Civic EX coupe, so obviously a weak charging system. My questions pertain to the electrical system to run these bad boys. Will my stock alt. (70 amps hot lol) be suffice with a good battery under the hood? I'm thinking a Optima Red Top under the hood and possibly a second battery in the back. I'm clueless as to what I should run as the second battery though. Any insight to this predicament will be most appreciated... Remember, I'm 17, think 17 year old budget lol.

Thanks,
Andrew

Upgrade your front battery and install a secondary one in the rear. If your working on a budget, go to walmart or check your local newspapers for sales or even visit out For Sale section of the forum.

Neways welcome to the site, we are honored to have you with us!

Thanks for the quick response man.... Any batteries you can reccomend in particular? Also, I've recently heard about having your alt. rebuilt. Does anyone know any prices on that? If all possible, I'd like to have it at 100 amps idle at least. Or enough to run 2k watts if I feel the need to upgrade later on.

Thanks,
Andrew

First off, I'm glad you signed up... and welcome to the forum! Nate is a great guy and has taken care of a lot of Florida competitors. Like Bone said, get with him and he'll give you a quote. Let him know you're on the boards too. You don't have to worry about the alt right now if you're tight on funds. A second battery helps a ton! Walmart battery will do it as Bone said.

Also, Calusa Concepts (Buzz) is a great guy and can help you out with any audio needs or termlab metering in Tampa. He has very reasonable pricing.

Nice to meet you kikin. Bonecrusher, will the batteries I saw you're selling work for my install? I have a rather large box in a rather small trunk so I can't use anything too large. Also guys, it's really cool to finally meet other people around here who find this stuff as interesting as I do. My parents hate it, they think it's a waste of money, so that makes my whole job of purchasing things a lil tougher lol. Who has the loudest daily driver on here near me?!? I'm in Tarpon Springs, just south of the Pasco county line in Pinellas. I want to hear some of yall's ground pounders!!!

Hey Andrew,

Yeah, definitely contact Nate... he'll hook you up. I'd recommend Kinetik if you're going to do a two battery setup... whatever you can fit under the hood with a 2400 in the back.

If you don't have a limit to the number of batteries you want to run... I'm running seven blue tops, no voltage drop whatsoever

hey man, whats up? i was at the new years meet. i was the really tall big blonde kid wearing the black realmofexcursion.com tshirt :) dunno if you remember me though

but ya, id say get a battery(s) and an alternator or just get your current re-wound and you should be good.

if you're interested im selling a like new optima yellowtop 34/78. ill do 100 bucks if you pick it up. let me know if you're interested.

also, its kinda a drive, but theres a meet every saturday night at the sonic/dunkin donuts/mcdonalds on W hillsborough right by the veterans expressway. its a pretty cool meet, but not much for stereo there. maybe ill see ya there sometime.

Andrew,

Thanks for logging on. I'm glad to see that you found us. You'll find lots of great people here who want to help you to succeed at building an awesome system.

I recommend that you take it slowly. If you rush into things, you'll just find that you made a decision that you aren't happy with. Be sure to take lots of advice into account. The more info you have, the better decision you can make.

I'd say the least expensive and most beneficial step would be to upgrade your current battery under the hood. You won't see miraculous results immediately, but it works very well with the next step. Which is to add a second battery. You see, if you just add a new battery to the trunk, the front battery will attempt to equalize with the new battery and will shorten it's life cycle.

Most cars have a lead/acid style battery under the hood. If you've never upgraded to a dry cell type battery, (Optima, Orbital, Kinetik, Odyssey, etc.) then you have one. The wet batteries are not the best source of power for an amplifier. Dry cells work best.

So, upgrade your underhood battery. Then get a trunk battery. After you've done that, then you can determine if you need an alternator. If you do, then Nate is The Man. He can definitely help you out with the Honda.

Good luck with your system. Make sure you're right with the parents. If you play your cards right, you can get them to hook you up for your birthday!
