My Astro has been down for a few days due to a faulty alternator. It's actually draining the battery (Optima red top). I can't get a new alternator, right now, due to other responsibilities, so I have a question.

The Beretta has a CS-130 alternator. The Astro has a CS-130 alternator. Both are 6 groove. the only differences I can see if the engines they are attatched to (Beretta = 3.1L, Astro = 4.3). Could it be possible that I can use the Beretta's alternator in the Astro?

I hope the answer is yes being the Beretta has a 160amp and I have a spare alternator (105amp) to replace it with. Knowing my luck though, it won't

That is a benefit of General Motors. They use alot of the same parts between vehicles.

If you can see no physical difference that will prevent you from mounting the berreta alt on the astro, then go to town. But you have to pay close attention to the case. Often the cases are the same, but the clock position of the two halves are different. Make sure the beretta alt has all of the same tabs, posts, connectors, etc. If the beretta isn't running, pull the alt off and compare it to the Astro.

Good luck!

I did just that, compared everything. The cases are identical and the alternator from the Beretta fits perfect in the Astro. There is one difference though. The Astro only has 2 wires on the plug, the Beretta has 4 wires (I think only 3 are used though). Being that the plug is different I decided not to even try it. I probably could get it working with a little messing around, but it's not actually worth it.

I'm just gonna have to get an alternator. Got ahold of Nate and the price seems to be fair (actually it's pretty good, being the same thing he offers is $200 more from somewhere else). Only problem is I need to get the audio system paid for by..... yesterday. So I guess the astro will be sitting for a little while until the system is paid off.
