Well that is awesome. Cause I just spent 120 dollars on an un carpeted box, slot port that isn't even rounded over. and the sub was supposed to be counter sunk. This is the 2nd box Ive had this month,so I can't afford a new one. I was hoping to saw the port out of this one and buy some carpet/fleece from walmart to cover it in. my install consist of
Sony xav7w with 6disc Cd changer
Infinity kappa components Passive off a
kicker 350.4
Re SE 12" in 2.5^ft 35" of port 35hz
Alpine Mrv850d
kinetik HC800
I am wanting to build an enclosure with two 3" aero ports, wich i have. Or If i could get this one carpeted, and maybe hand sand the port down so its not so noisy that would save me some money

Hey a sander or router with roundover bit and do the edges. Also don't cut the port leave it in and don't cover the port with carpet either or it will cause more noise than you have now. My suggestion is go to the shop that built the enclosure and tell the owner or manager about the situation. They agreed to do the enclosure a particular way and didn't stick to agreement. Also let them hear it so they can be aware of the port noise. If the port was correct it shouldn't have any noticeable noise if any at all. Post the maximum outside demensions you can use in the location you want the enclosure to be placed also post the airspace required for a ported enclosure for the sub you have. This will be needed to build a correct enclosure for your sub

The owner built the enclosure. So it kinda sucks. But the enclosure I have now is 27Wx13Hx20D. with a 3x11.5x19.25 port. should be 2.5 after all displacement and 35hz. the box itself isnt too bad. I think it can be salvaged. I just really wanted to use the round ports, and I want the box carpeted.

maybe someone can help me save this box and some money

The black box you had looked good why you get rid of it.
The current box can be saved. Just fill in the splits then round the edges and carpet it. If go through the inside and outside with caulcking to seal the seams

and it was assembled with nails so i should probably use some screws. The black box was a little small, and tuned WAY to high. I miss calculated something somewhere during the plans. when you open the trunk and turn it up the port is so loud it just sounds like the sub is leaking horribly

Thinking about swapping out this sub with an Incriminator audio Lethal injection 12" or 4 kicker comp 8s or a audioque sd2.5 12"
AirMan
03-16-2009, 09:02 PM
i could get a AQ sd2.5 15 but the sub would have to fire up
AirMan
03-17-2009, 09:24 PM
or i can do two 12s,one firing back like normal, one firing up.i might be able to squeeze two 12s both firing forward. my box is 27wide,with a 3" slot. so that leaves me with 24.75

Well i came up with a way to make my box larger, cause the shape of my trunk is wierd. I think this enclosure is like 4.10 but perhaps i am incorrect. please let me know what you come up with. using 3/4" MDF.

I don't want to blast the shop over the net until I get another chance to speak with them, and see if they can make it right.

You arent gonna need screws as long as the builder used wood glue to hold it together.
as far as the port noise, rounding the edges isnt going to help you out too much, its just that the port area itself is too small.
check the trunk opening of your car, and make sure that second sketch that you made will even fit in the opening of the trunk.
ive been there before, you dont want to build a box thats too big to fit in the trunk....lol
AirMan

the 2nd box will not fit, i was going to assemble it inside the trunk. But as of now,the enclosure I have, I can put a new front on it, and drop in two 10s, or I can build a larger box, and do two 12s, will cost a little more sense i have to build an entirely new box, only cost 30 for a sheet of MDF, or I can fit two 15s sealed...... not sure what would be the loudest. the enclosure for the 12s will be a little harder to build sense its not a typical square enclosure. the shop that built this box said hes not gunna charge me to carpet it, so if i do build a new box im going to let him carpet it, and then just sell it on craigslist and try to cut my losses

I can either modify the enclosure I have now and run a pair of 10s ported, 2.45 after port and sub displacement. Or I can run two 15s sealed, 4.0 after sub displacement.

well i got bored and started to mess with some stuff after work. and I turned the box around, and inverted the sub(just for looks). But when i turned the box around, the sound quality, and loudness,Minus hearing the port noise, Is a tremendous difference. It is significantly louder, But I still think going with a pair of 10s will be louder, in the same enclosure. what do you think

Two of these...... http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_12857_Cerwin-Vega+V-Max102.html# im just trying to get louder then my current sub im definitely going to keep the subs Inverted, I enjoy the look at the extra .20^3ft cant hurt

Well this is the enclosure Ive come up with. Dimensions are 38WideX16HighX16Deep. Subs inverted. and a single 6"x10" PVC port. If I did it right, should be about 36-37hz and 4.24^ft3. going to run either a pair of 10s or 12s depending on if i can ever get a hold of Incriminator audio, I would like to run the two LI 12s
