ahh that sucks! Right before SBN too! Good thing it didn't happen there though. That's a very uncommon place for a sub to break. I hope Fi gets that fixed quickly for you.

How did you place?

These subs were in need of recones anyway so I was actually trying to blow them after the comp. I got a new pair of BTLs arriving tomorrow so I'm all good for SBN. Even with one sub cutting out on me I was able to place 1st in middleweight Bassboxing and 3rd in Advance 1, both scores in the 150s!

That's a sign of stress. Your coil pulled the cone away when some force was acting against it.

I'm going to make the call that your box is creating ALOT of cancellation.

Was that the sub furthest from the port?

How deep does your port run? Does one sub fire into the port and the other fire into the upper wall of the port?

I'll bet you CAN'T do that with just one woofer in your box.

Yes that was the sub furthest from the port. The port is about 12" deep and the subs are offset so that neither fires into the port wall. Any suggestions Buzz? If you're gonna be in Melbourne or Fernandina I may pick your brain there.

Just trying to be helpful here...

When a woofer does this, it is due to a twisting motion.
Either from a loading obstruction (i/e angle, brace, etc), a misaligned cone/spider assembly, or coil rocking through excursion.
I would say the last one is probably the culprit.

and maybe running about 5kw to that sub might have a pinch of a part in it
