I just hooked up my new amp to my mids/highs and i get the dreadful whining noise. I have a good clean ground and still noise. i went as far as grounding the amp directly to the neg. battery term. and still noise. I have tried 3 diff. sets of RCA's as well, still noise. What else can it be???

I want to get this amp installed so my mids/highs are much clearer and louder, but i can't deal with that noise.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But it is probably where the RCA's are routed or possibly the source unit ground. :)

I've got a pair of Knu RCA's we can try.

No problem.

I have a USA-100 here too to help trouble shoot if it comes down to that. If you havent already try using the sub's RCA's and connections on the amp. If it is still making noise try putting the sub amp on your speakers. If the noise stops it is the amp. :)

What kind of amp?

Did you have an amp on them before?

What headunit?

What car?

How long have you had the current system installed?

Did you just run the RCA's? Or were they already in the car?

Try grounding the outer (negative) side of the RCA's behind the deck to a solid piece of metal in the dash. (That's the gold part that shows when you plug the RCA's in.

Make ABSOLUTELY certain that your speakers that you're trying to power up are NOT grounded to the door metal.

Try moving your headunit ground or adding an extra ground to your headunit.

Could be:

Headunit
Amp
Ground issue

The HU is grounded by wire and antenna(Had it Prof. Installed) I'm running 2 JL 10w1v2, powered by a JL 250/1. I'm using 4ga. power/ground for my JL amp and 8ga power/ground for the Kolw Audio amp. I have seperate power wires and fuses for each amp also.
The way I hooked it up is this way: I just ran my wires from my amp to the factory wires coming up to the headunit. I have always done this before and never had a problem, but could this effect it in ne way???

Headunit
Amp
Ground issue

I just tried installing it again. I pulled everything out and then reinstalled, same loud @55 whining noise. Let me know if what else I can do.

To ground the RCA jacket, solder a wire to the outside metal part of the RCA end (not the inside pin) and then put that wire in with the ground lead. You can also open the amp up and do it internally if you trust yourself with that. I did it with my USamps MD2D.

Radio might be bad also...also the ground on the engine is not always a good one. Make sure the positive and grounf wire are not in the same side were the RCA's are running. And last find a good ground for the radio.

I now have no amps in my truck as of today. I was told by my local shop that the Kole Audio amp must have caused some type of feedback through the HU and fried my RCA's in the HU. The RCA jacks that my sub amp was hooked to now has lost power and whines. my subs sound like crap now, so I just unhooked everything from my headunit and am back to factory wiring to my Eclipse 5x7's. It sounds alright, but I didn't want to risk messing up my JL 250/1 amp and my 2 JL 10w1v2 subs. I paid too much to have them destroyed because I wanted to save money and go with a cheap 4 ch. amp for my mids/highs.

Is this the shop that sold and installed the headunit? Are they warrantying the HU? Why don't they just swap it out with a new HU?

I don't necessarily trust this diagnosis.

They installed it, but say that since I'm the one that hooked up the amplifiers to it, then it isn't covered by them.

Yep, a Pioneer 3800. I hate Pioneer, but it was replaced by the dealership when I bought it, so....

Guess I'm going to go back to an Alpine or Clarion Pro Audio HU. Maybe a Kenwood

Who isntalled it? Audiowaves or Sound Citation? I dont have a high opinion of either. In either case the Kole amp blowing the RCA's is highly unlikely.

I also had to replace about 6 or so Pioneer HU that suddenly caused alt whine out of the front and rear RCA outputs.

Take a ground wire place it under the rca at the head unit fold it and jam the rca in the pod then ground the other end. pioneers are know for blowing the ground off the ground portion of the pod in the radio. Try it!
