Took my tenney alt to a local alt shop today.

They said they can only really clamp as high as 200 amps since their machine only can do a 200 amp load.

They put it on their machine, and tried to clamp it.
Soon as they started putting a load on it the amperage gauge would shoot up to 180-200 amps then their belt would slip and squel.

They were two older gents and kept saying there's no way an alt this size could put out near that Power and last long... Kept saying they did work for fire departments and their alts were three times the size and pulleys were huge to avoid belt slippage LOL.
Didn't seem too knowledgable about audio alternators for cars.

Tried calling another place locally and their machine can't clamp that high either. Looks like ill have to get a handheld dc clamp meter to see what it's really doing.

i went to a similar alt shop and had them clamp and alt of mine lol guy said for the stereos it was all about the voltage and not the amps so a 100 amp alt with a 16v reg is the best way to go. i lol and left
