Had to add $50 for the two sheets of cabinet ply I'ma pick up at HD hopefully this weekend. Everything else was traded straight up for what I already had. That means it's officially build log time.

Pics of gear:
RD Alpha Max/PSI Hybrid 15D2. Hit the motor and basket with my rim cleaner.

Sub/port forward into cabin, sealed off from trunk in this area.

That's about does it for now. Should be gettin wood this weekend, but might be next.

Goals are obviously teh lows. But, I have been doin 12's in the trunk lately and while they kill the lows, it's just not enough output for me. So, I got a bigger sub, bigger amp, and I'm sealing off the trunk. Think it will work?

Current setup:
Skar VVX-12D2 on the RUB1.2500D at 1 ohm in a BHE 2.0^3 @ 30Hz Box. Pending payment.
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv213/phatboi1282/100_5168.jpg

Sounds really good. Rubicon is definitely cleaner than the American Bass. Have the gain almost 1/2 on the Skar at vol 52/62 and it is takin it better than it did the VFL imo.

Gonna use some 2x2's to frame the box out after I get my false floor layed and the box top secured to the bottom of the rear deck. Will give me something to screw to and add bracing to the panels at the same time. Going to use ripped down corners of the 2x2's for my 45's as well. As small of a piece as will adequately round off the corner for air flow.

How much displacement do you think that will add to my box? Thanks.

Hey, I can dream right?

Box is built. Camera died so no finished pics. Lettin the dustcap on the sub and the caulk I just applied inside the box to make sure it was sealed dry. Goin to Live Wire in the AM to fetch installation accessories. Should be playing but not sealed off from the trunk by tomorrow.

Had to move the box farther back in the trunk than I had originally planned because I did not give myself enough clearence under the rear deck lip to get the top on. Ended up just installing the front panel and building the box from it. But, forgot to cut the hole out untill it was already glued and screwed. :banghead3: So, I cut it in the car and cut it to big. :rolleyes2: So, if anyone asks, it was meant to be double baffle the whole time, lol. Also as you can see, I forgot to leave a gap in the front 2x2 for the sub. That was a fun fix and most likely the reason the hole ended up to big...

Reply from David to my Motor Info Thread on FixMySPeaker Forum CACO:

The motors are really the same on the Alpha and Alpha Maxx.

They have a small gap, and we only use 4 layer FW voice coils in them.

Should be a dual spider setup also.

PHATBOi
01-04-2012, 08:07 PM
So, a dual spider setup is why it's so stiff and not comin thru on the lows too much prolly? Still has to break in. Thought for a min maybe my box was tuned higher than I thought, but I think it just has to finish breakin in.

And yes it gets down, but rolls off below like 30. Think with the added 2x2 frame inside it might have actually raised my tuning upto like 32 or somethin. Still sounds great, but just not as low as I had hoped.

Just have to wait and see, I'm sure it's only gonna get lower and louder.

BTW, sub is laughin at the 2500 and the gain is about 3/4 of the way up.

fearof85
01-04-2012, 08:42 PM
2 spiders really isn't that much for 2500 watts rms, even if they were hard spiders I would think it would be moving just fine.

Sounds like the box is a little small or tuning is off to me, you also might be getting some cancellation aswell, IDK.

iamamp3pimp
01-04-2012, 09:17 PM
im telling you man, those 2x2s arent affecting your tuning by more than a half a hz which is inaudible anyway....

Sounds about right then for it to roll off hard under 30 hz in your case.

Yeah, box was originally supposed to be that much more forward, but i didn't acoount for the underneith of the rear deck rounding off at the corners near the strut towers and it didn't leave enough room for the corners of the top panel to slide forward into place. So, yeah that was the back wall but everything got moved back equally.

Cone would barely move when I first got ot. Them 2 spiders are pretty stiff. I'm sure it will fill in over the next few weeks, and as stated I really need to get it sealed off. It's like makin it to the 11th grade and droppin out...

They are very efficient and get loud on little power. My Eagle is bridged 8 ohms by 2 (90 rms per door between the 8 and the XST) and they are effin loud. Little harsh due to the 3.4 at 6db slope crossover point I have them at for now with a set of caps and the limited EQ on my head unit. Sure they will clean up alot with the crossovers I'm going to get from Crescendo for them.

Should get louder when the Nendo 8's go in as well as it will be crossed at 4 ohms then for 180 per door.

be careful. more power can lead to more distortion. i can understand wanting more headroom tho... im up to 500~550 watts on my front stage.

if i ever switched to PA loud speakers on that power id be deff. i heard some beymas at zades shop on 75 per (same power my mids get) and my eardrums were literally ringing...thats loud.

PHATBOi

Just the man I wanted to talk to. Been looking at the ample crossover section on my HiFonics Eagle and think I got a plan figured out...

If I bridge my 8's on 1&2 I can hipass at 125 and low pass around 5K(?) then run my XST2's 8 ohms per channel on 3&4 hipassed where 1&2 are lowpassed. They will only be on like 25 rms each but should still get pretty loud and sound a hell of alot better.

Pretty sure if I leave the tweets stereo and bridge the mids I should still have some stereo effect from the tweets without it sounding so mono from the mids being bridged, right?

Also, using only 1 set of RCA's I'd have to go into input A and select full range input then set my Hipass to 5K? Then select lowpass from A as my B input, also selecting 2 channel mono as the lowpass setting. Then all I should have to do is set the hipass on the deck at 125 and 3&4 ouputs for my mids should be bandpassed correct.

Hope you can follow that. Here is a pic of the xover for reference.

Leave it stereo and don't worry so much about power right now. If anything work on gettting your matching mids then either get a bigger 4 channel amplifer or add on another amp for either mids or highs duty. Just a thought

S.Rtv is on 1, but I turned LOUD off (had it on low) and turned SLA to 0 (had it on 1).

ok, then just get a line out converter for the rear speaker outs and use your head units crossover to the 4 ch.. run it as a 4ch. to your mids and tweets.

thats how my front stage is set. front runs the doors and rear runs the dash...this way you can fade to match the sound coming from your speakers.

if anything you also gain the extra output from the other set of rca's so you dont have to run splitters and you can use the built in xover on your head and amp.

In case you wanted to know the Crescendo XST-CX crossovers are high passed at 4,400hz with a 12db slope.

Thanks. Just realized I can run the tweets active off my HiFonics Eagle FTW! So I won't be needing the xovers afterall. My Eagle will also send the low pass thru the output into my 1kc4, then I can set the hpf on the 1kc4 bandpassing my cendo 8's.

Will be gettin a set of the new Crescendo 1" tweets as well when they come out just to run off the headunit channels. I already have the holes cut in the a pillars, might as well use em.
