Why matte black first? Seems like a waste of paint unless there is a reason behind it

When doing a pearl you still must have a base coat.

Pearls are mixed with either matte clear or glossifier or a combination of both. Both of those are extremely thin unlike normal dip base colors like red/black/blue/etc. The black basecoat ensures it is thick enough to still be durable, while also making it easy to peel off whenever the time comes for a color change.

You can also get different pearl colors pending the basecoat used. Black is just the norm as it applies thickest of all the colors and helps make the pearls pop as a basecoat.

This Car for example used 2 gallons of black, 1 of clear and 1 of gloss a long with 100 grams of pearl. 50 grams per gallon.

If I were to just shoot the pearl with 2 gallons of clear not only would it not be thick enough but the basecolor on the car might also bleed through the pearl.

Hope that helps explain the process haha

You should make a video of you pealing off 2+year old dip off a car.
I'd like to see how well it held up and how easy it is to peal it off back to stock color and if the original paint was effected at all by the dip being on there so long.

Its been done on Dip your Car Forums. The only Ill effect has been a Ford that had Plastidip Racing Stripes. The paint naturally faded and the paint under the stripes was in much better condition.

Ive used dip on my Personal Car. No complaints at all. Would Dip again.

What about door jams and under the hood and whatnot? Do those just get left alone? Because the actual dip itself looks great, but if I had a nice Car with a nice dip on it, and opened the door, and the door jam was a whole separate color...
